Behind the Scenes: David

April 30, 2018
I wanted to take a moment to thank my husband, David. Five years ago when I was considering switching gears to specialize in dog photography, his encouragement and questioning led me toward path I’m on now.
I had been working as a photographer for a decade, shooting anything under the sun for anyone who would pay. Photography stopped being fun, my work suffered and I burned out.
But because he kept pushing me to find my “why” I kept moving forward. Slowly and intentionally I began narrowing my focus to the subjects I feel passionate about –– dogs & the environment (Hannele Lahti Photography). And you know what? It’s starting to work.
Last year I was fortunate to work on multiple projects that energized & challenged me. The work was diverse — private commissions, editorials, videos, charity events, teaching photography onboard an explorer ship as it crossed the Atlantic — and best of all, it fit into my personal “Why.”
There will always be ups and downs but if you create work from the heart, it will find a way to work out. Tune in, dig deep, trust yourself.

Thank you David for allowing me the space to grow, experiment and build something I find so worthwhile. You will always be my favorite puppy wrangler. (photo by Julie Socher)
