#TravelsWithOllie: June Group Hike

June 3, 2019
I've been organizing community hikes around the DC-area for a year and a half now and I'm having the best time. Exploring the local area with new friends and happy dogs has been a gift. June's hike to Sugarloaf Mountain was no exception.
Summer heat and unstable weather in the Mid-Atlantic can make organizing outdoor activities tricky. We tried hiking Sugarloaf back in April when the weather would be cooler but were rained out. So I moved it to June and hoped for the best. It ended up being hot and humid, making the 5.5 mile hike a little much. I adjusted to a 2.5 mile one and was glad I did.
The Mountain Loop trail (white blazes) was a great moderately challenging hike – perfect for group of hikers with varying levels of experience. The trail was shaded and not overly busy. Everyone we passed enjoyed our dog parade and a few stopped for trailside dog loves. We made enough noise that wildlife moved the the next county but at least everyone, dogs included, had a blast.
Our next hike will be at Virginia's Prince William Forest Park on July 7th. Learn more + RSVP here.

Special shoutout to my niece, Sarah, ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎who snapped some of the hike photos this time. She'll be helping me out on hikes, photo shoots and office work this summer while she's home from college. I'm excited :)
