#TravelsWithOllie: May Group Hike

Mother Nature had our number this month. Our scheduled hike was supposed to be out in the beautiful Shenandoah National Park – hiking the Mary's Rock trail – but thunderstorms thwarted us twice. Since hiking through thunderstorms is never a good idea, especially in the mountains, we adjusted plans and met up a little closer to home at the Manassas National Battlefield Park.
We had an adventurous group join us for a 5-mile loop through the battlefield. The weather started off cool and misty then transitioned into a sticky soup typical of this area as the sun broke through. No bother, we slowed our pace and took time for photo-ops and remembrance as we made our way through the battlefields and back to the Visitor's Center. It was a nice way to wrap up Memorial Day weekend.
The next hike will be a leisurely stroll around Theodore Roosevelt Island on June 9th. Learn more and sign up here.
